Hi there, I’m so glad you stopped by the site to check out what I’ve put together so far… so a little about me.
I’ve been driving my friends and family crazy over the last few years talking about retirement and where the best place would be to retire. The responses are always different, some are interested in the idea of somewhere hot, some think I’m crazy and think its too far away. My response is always “you need to start thinking about it now because you don’t want to waste valuable retirement time searching when you could be relaxing with a cold one.
Some friends are not interested in it at all, they may have cottages or family reasons for not going anywhere and I get that.
Me I’m 45 12-13 years from retirement, I’ve watched my mom and dad enjoy some really nice trips during cold Canadian winters, but I always said to them “why not stay longer”. They never did and sadly my mom passed away a few years ago missing the opportunity to see more places.
I’m married to a wonderful woman and my best friend who is ready to see the world with me. We have two girls aged 9 and 12. They are very busy each night, which means we’re the taxi drivers like many other parents, which is another reason I can’t wait to slow down and smell the roses.
In fairness, my wife and I do differ on where and how we want to retire which is making this adventure even more interesting, so for that reason, I’ll try to hit as many areas on each country so that you can make an informed decision not just based on what I want in retirement. As much as I like Panama right now, we both love Georgia and South Carolina so everything is up for discussion. My wife mentioned this morning what about Arizona? I thought huh, I need to do more on Arizona for the site.
The plan over the next few years is to visit places we’ve not been, revisit places we’ve been to look further into real estate. As we get closer to retirement we’ll really whittle down the choices to finally where we’re comfortable. And hey at the end of the day it may be that we decide to rent and go to two or three different places, who knows but again we’ll keep digging and share everything we find with you and hopefully you’ll share your experiences as well
Making the site has been an interesting experience I can’t believe how far its come since I actually made up my mind to start this search. I thought “why not share it, there’s probably others looking as well. If other people are looking, they are probably looking for the same information, so I hope this is one of your stops in that search and maybe the resource you share with your friends.
If you’re interested in checking how to make your own site, you just need to be passionate about something (and everyone is) I certainly have a recommendation for your best chance to be successful and understand how it’s done.
